The department recently acquired this speed trailer which was purchased through a federal grant. The trailer is manufactured by Decatur and monitors speeding at various locations in the Township. This equipment allows the officers to place the trailer at locations where citizens complain about speeding. The trailer has a data recording device that tracks speeds and the number of vehicles through the zone which is being monitored. After obtaining the data, the department will decide if enforcement is necessary and go out and conduct speed details at that location with VASCAR speed timing devices.
This equipment cost approximately $6,000.00 and we have needed this device for many years. Previously we borrowed trailers from other municipalities. Now we have one of our own.
If any citizen wants to request the speed trailer please call the township police station at 717-938-2608 and ask to speak to Sgt. Andrew Knaub.

On Tuesday July 21, 2009 Logan, the Newberry Township Police Department beloved police dog was found suffering from a serious condition known as “Bloat” and was rushed a local animal clinic where he underwent life saving surgery. Due to the financial strain from the surgical costs, the department asked the public for help. Within days of the announcement, the public’s response was overwhelming with generous donations to cover the costs of the procedure and the after care for Logan.
As of July 28, 2009 Logan is taking his recovery one day at a time and moving towards coming back to work. Although his recovery may take a few months, the department is looking forward to his return to work and to serving the community that responded to his aid.

Above picture shows the surgical scars from Logan’s recent operation.
The Department and especially Logan’s family would like to thank the generous citizens that donated money towards his surgery and recovery costs. Thank you.
The Department will be having a meet and greet session for those that sent in donations for Logan once he is fully recovered.
