Chief’s Message

I wanted to take this opportunty to introduce myself. My name is John Snyder and I am the Chief of Police but more importantly, a resident of Newberry Township. I have lived in the area since 1994 and have worked for this Police Department since 1990. As a taxpayer and resident of this community, I have a stake in what happens here. Public safety is my first priority as the Chief and I will ensure that you as a taxpayer and citizen receive the highest level of service and care that is expected and deserved. I have worked hard in the last decade to ensure that the officers of this department have received the best and most up to date training available so that they can provide professional and courteous service to you.

My credentials consist of a bachelors degree from Elizabethtown College in criminal justice and a Master’s Degree in Administration of Justice from Wilmington University. I attended the 231st session of the FBI National Academy, the 309th session of the Northwestern University Center for Public Safety’s School of Police Staff and Command and have attended numerous management training classes such as POLEX, Advanced POLEX, Command Institute, FBI Leadership, FBI LEEDA Mid-Atlantic LEEDS Seminar, Southern Police Institute’s Management of small agencies, NTOA Incident Command, and others.

Under my command the department has improved the services to the public but not increase costs. By streamlining budget items, the department now operates at a lower cost than it did several years ago. Implementation of newer technology has increased the effectiveness of the officers on the street and kept them out on patrol longer. We now utilize email and smart phone devices to improve communication within and outside the department. By receiving grant funds we updated hardware for our computer system and allow officers to access critical information from the patrol cars to make themselves and the public safer than ever. Several community policing efforts were created to build the bridge to the public. T.E.A.M. school education programs and officers walking in schools each day are just a few of the initiatives we have put in place and supported. This website as well Facebook allows the public to receive timely information about crime in the area and keep current on Departmental business.

The residents of Newberry Township and the three surrounding boroughs of York Haven, Goldsboro and Lewisberry deserve the highest level of service and protection. The department and it’s officers provide excellent police protection to these areas and will continue to do so while I am the Chief of Police and beyond. In March of 2008 the Newberry Township Board of Supervisors nominated me as the Chief of Police. I made a pledge to serve with the highest level of integrity and honor possible as the head of this police department. I will do everything in my power to ensure that every victim we encounter and every crime we investigate is treated with the highest degree of professionalism and care.

Thank you for allowing us to serve this community with honor and respect.
